Numbers up at Casino Beef Week
(Friday, 30 May 2014 - ABC News)

The beef capital of New South Wales is celebrating its biggest event of the year.

Casino Beef Week, held in the Richmond Valley in northern NSW, is now into its 32nd year.

Its president Stuart George, says all the events this week have been well attended by the public.

"We're very happy with the numbers from this year and it's certainly looking good," he said.

"The weather's been very kind to us this year, and a lot of our events are outside so when you've got good weather people want to get involved."

One of the more popular events held during the 10-week festival is the free barbeque breakfast.

It attracted hundreds of people to the town's centre this morning.

"We'll go through half a tonne of beef today, which is a mixture between the steaks and snags, about 400 loaves of bread, about 20 odd kilos of butter and a lot of sauce," he said.

Every year, it's the job of the Casino Beef Week queen to help promote the event.

The crown went to born-and-bred local preschool worker Brooke Hancock this year, she says the town is buzzing.

"The community spirit's right up there," she said.

"Looking around this morning, you can see that everyone comes together for a main cause; it doesn't matter where you're from or what your background is, we can come together and have a really good time."
